DAY 1: ARRIVE PANAMA CITY
Arrive independently to Tocumen International Airport and transfer to your hotel. Later, meet for a group dinner at one of the many restaurants. Overnight: Radisson Panama.

Day 2: PARTIAL TRANSIT OF MIRAFLORES LOCKS, CASCO VIEJA
Experience the thrill of a partial transit for the Historic Panama Canal on a comfortable passenger ferry. The tour begins at the Amador Causeway where you will board the ferry for the start of your journey. Cruise under the Bridge of the Americas and experience a partial transit cruise on the Panama Canal through the Miraflores Locks. You will learn and appreciate the entire process that each vessel that crosses the Panama Canal must carry out, also pass through the Culebra Cut, the narrowest section of the Canal. Continue to the famous Cerro Ancon, inside the former U.S. Canal Zone, then the best view of Panama’s skyline. Later, enjoy a walking tour of Panama City’s Old Town, Casco Vieja. Visit the plazas and the spectacular architecture of this UNESCO World Heritage Site. Casco Vieja is a wonderful location for sunset viewing and dinner in one of the many plazas, restaurants, or rooftop bars! Overnight: Radisson Panama.

Day 3: CHARGES RIVER, MONKEY ISLAND, GAMBOA, EMBERA NATIVE PEOPLE
Today, drive past the Panama Canal’s famous Culebra Cut, Gamboa resort, and Chagres River before we head into the Soberania National Park. Known for its birding (the Audubon Society’s annual bird count has spotted over 500 species in 24 hours!), Soberania is full of wildlife and is a wonderful place to watch for monkeys, sloths, the Harpy Eagle and more. Board an expedition boat and depart on an adventure that will include crossing Gatun Lake in the Panama Canal passing cargo ships transiting the waterway, making, and interesting contrast with the natural surroundings. Along the way, possible opportunity to spot green iguana, crocodiles, osprey, Peacock bass, snail kite and Keel billed toucan.
Journey up the Chagres River for a unique opportunity to interact and meet the Emberá people, one of seven indigenous groups from Panama. This rainforest dwelling people are culturally related to Amazonian tribes. After a short boat trip in a traditional Emberá canoe or “piragua,” members of this community will welcome you to their village, which is built on a small rise, approximately 100 feet in from the river.
The boat journey takes us into the rainforest of the 320,000 acre, Charges National Park, which is the largest of the National Parks protecting the Panama Canal Watershed.

Day 4: SAN BLAS ISLANDS – DOLPHIN ISLAND
After an early breakfast, travel to the San Blas Islands. Located along the northeastern coast of Panama in the Caribbean Sea, the San Blas Islands are the home of the Kuna Indians. Determined to protect their unique culture, the Kunas were granted regional autonomy forming the “Comarca” (autonomous territory) of Kuna Yala where to this day an indigenous congress rule. Kuna women spend countless hours stitching the very colorful reverse appliquéd cotton “molas” which is part of their daily wear. Essentially, the Kuna are fishermen, but they also farm coconut, corn, rice, cocoa, yucca, and other staples.
Visit Dolphin Lodge, that consists of rustic traditional Kuna- style huts in the Kuna village of Achutupo. Here learn about the Kuna culture and traditional ceremonies. The communal house of “Sahilas” (Kuna chiefs) is where the chiefs are responsible for enforcing the law of the community as well as offering advice on other aspects of life - including marital problems! Learn about the building of the typical Kuna house, their economy, the traditional “mola”, and the processing of sugar cane into the alcoholic drink known as “chicha”. Overnight: Radisson Panama.

Day 5: DAVID & CHIRIQUI HIGHLANDS
Board a domestic flight to David, capital of the Chiriqui province. Chiriqui is known as “Panama’s breadbasket” and contains some of the most breathtaking highland scenery in Central America. Shared with neighboring Costa Rica and recognized in 1982 as a World Biosphere Reserve and UNESCO World Heritage Site, La Amistad National Park is located on the Central American natural land bridge where flora and fauna from North and South America meet and achieve maximum species mix. With great ranges in altitude, precipitation, soil and temperature, biodiversity here is at its best.
Depart to Boquete and visit Sitio Barriles (Site of the Barrels) an archeological site of the extinct Barril culture that once lived on the slopes of the dormant Baru Volcano. Joined by our guide, interpret the writings on the stones (petroglyphs) and learn about the history of this culture. Overnight: Hotel Ladera or similar in Boquete

Day 6: FINCA LERIDA CLOUD FOREST, BOQUETE
Today will offer many options. Explore Finca Lerida, a privately-owned preserve in Boquete, located in the buffer zone of Baru Volcano National Park. At an elevation of 2,286 meters there’s an opportunity to possibly observe the elusive Resplendent Quetzal, Three-wattled Bellbird, Black-faced Solitaire, Volcano Hummingbird, Long-tailed Silky Flycatcher and Prong billed Barbet in their cool habitat of orchids, bromeliads, and wild avocados.
Hike through lush vegetation and arrive at the Collin’s shade-grown coffee farm where you can enjoy lunch. Return to Boquete and free time to explore the area. Overnight: Hotel Ladera or similar in Boquete
Day 7: PANAMA CITY
After breakfast, board our plane and return to Panama City. Disembark and drive back to our hotel with stops on the way at one, or several, of the many handicrafts. Free afternoon with many optional activities available for the rest of the day. Tonight, enjoy a farewell dinner at local restaurant. Overnight: Radisson Panama.

Day 8: DEPART PANAMA OR EXTEND FOR AN ADDITIONAL DAY
Meet the airport shuttle for scheduled departures back to the U.S. If you prefer, it is easy to stay in Panama City on the 12th to explore the unique areas of Taboga, Pearl Islands or El Valle.
