Where World-Class Fishing Meets Authentic Cuba
A Remarkable Fishery. A Meaningful Journey.
The waters of Cuba's incredible fishery remain as wild and inspiring today as they have for generations. Beyond the legendary flats and world-class fishing lies something even more rewarding—the opportunity to experience Cuba through the people who call it home. Mariah Travel has spent nearly three decades working alongside trusted Cuban guides, naturalists, and local families, creating authentic journeys that directly support the communities we visit.
The heart of this adventure is the 150-square-mile Parque Nacional Ciénaga de Zapata, a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve since 2003. This pristine national park is a sanctuary for bonefish, permit, and tarpon, a fly fisher’s dream. With its intact ecosystems and robust biodiversity, it’s the perfect setting to cast in harmony with nature. Alternatively, the nearby Hatiguanico River offers tarpon chasers a jungle-river experience with abundant silver kings from 10-120 pounds. It's everything from battling tarpon in a mangrove phone booth to ‘poons rolling in open-water on this 30-mile coastal river.
While Cuba continues to face economic challenges, the extraordinary beauty of the Zapata wetlands, the warmth of its people, and the quality of its fishing remain unchanged. Our carefully planned programs are designed to provide a comfortable, rewarding experience while fulfilling the spirit of the Cuban People.
Evenings are filled with warm Cuban hospitality, home-cooked meals, and rich cultural experiences in music, art, and local traditions. This is more than a fishing trip—it’s a journey of connection and conservation. By participating, you’ll be directly supporting the Cuban people and contributing to the preservation of their extraordinary natural heritage.
Come for the fishing. Leave with unforgettable memories, new friendships, and the knowledge that your journey has made a meaningful difference.
